Quitting smoking can be one of the greatest accomplishments in life. It is a mission that proves two things. That you value your health, and that you’re willing to do whatever it takes to be the best version of yourself for those around you. This can include cigarettes, marijuana, vapes etc.
If you are on the journey to quitting smoking, here are some tips to help keep you on track. 🛣
▶️ Go all in- if you truly mean to quit, then start as you mean to go on. Bin any cigarettes, vapes, nicotine patches you have left. This is a radical move, but it removes temptation from your path! 💥
▶️ Recruit close friends and family who don’t smoke- have people around you to keep you accountable e.g. people that won’t offer you cigarettes or push you into maintaining the habit. 🙎🏽♂️🙋🏻♀️
▶️ Fill in any time gaps- identify what time of day you are most likely to want a smoke, and fill it with something else e.g. a new hobby, more family time, a walk etc.
▶️ The post it note method- take 10 post it notes and write something negative about smoking on each one e.g. ‘it costs me money that I could spend on other more enjoyable things’ , ‘it makes me breathless when I try to play with my kids’ , ‘it makes me more vulnerable to lung cancer’ etc.
Then place these post it notes around visible areas of your home/ office. This will keep your reasons for quitting clear in your mind. 🏠
▶️ Diet and exercise- keep a consistent exercise regimen and fuel the body with the right foods. The more respect you treat your body with, the less likely you are to want to spoil your progress. 💪🏼 🏋🏼♀️
▶️ Start a mantra- you can create a script for yourself during times of extreme cravings that reinforces the need to quit. For example- ‘My body is too good for cigarettes. I take my health seriously, for myself , my friends and family. I’m not the kind of person that smokes anymorw.’
▶️ Bunch of grapes- sometimes, it’s about facilitating the hand to mouth movement that a cigarette provides. When you feel a craving, you can buy a bunch of grapes and eat these one at a time, mimicking the hand to mouth movement of a cigarette to feed this cognitive impulse. 🍇
Quitting smoking isn’t always a smooth journey. Sometimes you will feel like caving. But if you build your strong habits and enter with the right attitude, then it is definitely possible.
